Twitter's decision to build its new developer community upon Drupal is really big news for Drupal! With Twitter's popularity and with the number of developers who now have access to the better way that their applications can be developed with the flexibility and customization options that Drupal offers, more developers will get to see the effectiveness of this CMS.
Launched last July 11, the new developer community will allow developers to have access to APIs, tips, suggestions, a blog and a forum where they can develop applications, connect to Twitter and connect with each other using Drupal. The site – Dev.twitter.com – was developed by Acquia.
In his blog post, Acquia's chief technology officer and founder Dries Buytaert said that the size of the social networking site (almost 750,000 developers are actively using Twitter currently) signifies the big movement that Drupal seems to be headed for with the launch of the new developer community. Thankfully, though, Buytaert believes (and we agree) that Drupal has the capacity to respond to the needs presented by all third-party developers who will be using Twitter's new community.
It's good that Twitter has chosen to use Drupal to run its re-launched developer site. More developers are likely to be developing applications better now that Drupal is in place.
